Established in 2018, the Social Welfare Department’s Special Needs Trust (SNT) Scheme is designed to help manage the assets of deceased parents to meet the long-term daily needs of their special needs children. However, the Scheme’s uptake has been limited since the launch.
In Cable TV’s feature report on the Special Needs Trust Scheme, Sarina Cheung said many parents with special needs children are concerned that the SNT does not cover property. While parents can set up their will and transfer property to a third party to hold on behalf of their children, they still face the problem of finding a reliable and suitable trustee.
