What’s Next for LGBTQ+ Equality in HK

The LGBTQ+ community in Hong Kong faces limited legal protections and societal acceptance. While advocacy efforts continue to push for greater equality, including the legalization of same-sex marriage, the LGBTQ+ population still lacks many of the basic rights enjoyed by the heterosexual population.

Amid the celebrations of Pride Month, we are also taking this chance to talk with the LGBTQ+ community. Last Saturday, at a seminar titled “What’s Next for LGBTQ+ Equality in HK”, hosted by Rainbow of Hong Kong, Les Corner Empowerment Association, Made in Gender, and Hong Kong Pride Parade, Sarina Cheung discussed the topic of “Life Planning for Your Beloved and Rainbow Future”, sharing her insights around the impact of Hong Kong’s recent court cases regarding same-sex partnerships, the current standing of the LGBTQ+ community in the city, and how they should approach financial, well-being planning, and divorce-related matters.
